Character Background - Blake Lewis(unfinished)
Family
Blake's mother died from giving birth to him. He was never told of this by his father to protect him. In the course of his childhood he researched the death of his mum and came to know of the real cause and blamed himself for her death and developed a psychotic state.
Blake's father was a skilled hit-man but in Blake's point of view he was a successful stock broker and was Blake's idol.
Where Blake's passion for blood was developed:
Blake's father was hired to murder a well-connected mobster, he was quite skeptic but the pay was well and he thought it'll good for his family so he accepted. After he finished the job he realized he was being followed and murder threats were being sent to him, which lead to him being scared for Blake's life.
He researched into the threats and found the mob who were following him and threatening to hurt Blake and located them. One night he got ready to go and murder these mobsters as he felt this was the only way to keep Blake safe. As he was scared Blake's safety he took him and drove to the location and told Blake to stay in the car. Blake started to hear some screams from the house and got restless and left the car and peeked through the window and saw his father stabbing a man in the head.

Genre: Psychological Thriller
Miramax Films – Independent Film/Production Company.

Psychological Thrillers Distributed:
- Reservoir Dogs
- Pulp Fiction
- Trainspotting
- Internal Affairs (Mou Gaan Dou)
- Hostage
- Kill Bill Volume 1
- Kill Bill Volume 2
- The Others
I could also use Dimension releases or The Weinstein Company, which were also founded by the founders of Miramax Films

They have released Psychological thrillers such as Grindhouse, The Mist, Inglorious Basterds, Hannibal Rising and Lucky Number Slevin.
I have decided to choose to use The Weinstein Company as it's founders were the founders of MIramax Films who from my research chose to distribute many psychological thrillers at their time in MIramax films so they would prefer to release my film as it is a psychological thriller. So The Weinstein Company would be the perfect company to distribute my film.

Updated Synopsis
Blake Lewis is an intelligent but reserved accountant who has a passion for blood. Lewis plays out his role as a CEO for a multi-national company during the day, but when the sun is down, the violence within him heats up. But, unlike most psychopaths, Lewis knows that his urges are wrong and why they’re wrong, so he directs the urges to a greater cause, and deals out justice by killing the guilty.
Lewis has known, ever since he was a kid, that he was different from everyone else. He showed signs, namely the disturbing and deeply graphic depictions of murder and torture in his scrapbook, and as his family and school teachers started to worry for him, Lewis’ awareness of the monster within him was the beginning of his desire for self control. It took years of self exploration and effort, but over the years, he got better at controlling his passion for blood. One day, on the way home from university, Lewis glimpsed a man raping a teenage girl outside the bus window, and rushed off while it was moving; Lewis felt the need to help, went over and put an end to the situation before telling the girl to head home. But, after she left, Lewis couldn’t keep it back any longer; it wasn’t even about justice anymore. He just couldn’t let the monster walk free to hurt another innocent.
Next morning, police discovered the rapist with several stab wounds to his head. The killing wasn’t seen as one of justice, and went down as an unsolved murder.
The film continues five years later, in Lewis’ basement. His walls are completely full of newspaper clippings, showing his obsession with criminals and his desire for justice. Lewis is shown organizing a large number of knives and weapons.
Lewis picks up a blood stained knife, and an extreme close up of the knife is shown, with his blurred face visible in the background because of the focus. As the focus shifts onto Blake, a smirk is shown visible on his face, and then a dialogue begins: “(laugh) well I learned how to adapt”.
Lewis is shown making his way to work and his stream of consciousness is played as a non-digetic sound in the background, mixed in with many close-ups of his face as Lewis’ thoughts flitter constantly between his inner demon, and his day-time persona, which is the side of him which keeps his demon alive and concealed.
Lewis is unable to find any meaning in life, any satisfaction, or any sense of being, during the day. He knows that it’s because of the demon, because he only ever feels truly alive at night, which he subconsciously links back to his first murder. He has trouble identifying night time with anything else, and it’s the only time he can really feel like he matters to the world. He knows that leading a dual identity is tearing him apart, though. He just can’t go on living the way he does.
After work one day, a co-worker, Ken, invites Lewis over to his house for dinner which Lewis reluctantly agrees to go to. It’s at dinner that Michael introduces him to his sister. Lewis is just mesmerized by her beauty, and it’s at this point he realizes that there could be more in store for him than he’s living right now. He’s content just knowing that she may be the one, the one who will divert his passion away from blood lust and into something greater.
As Lewis’ love for Angela develops, he notices how she doesn’t show much interest in return, and he’s gutted that the love between them isn’t mutual, as she insists they’ll remain friends. This bothers Lewis a lot but he remains confident that she is the one for him. It’s this anger which will fuel the murders of this story, as his frustration is unleashed and his murders grow increasingly violent, and the locals, who have always suspected the existence of a ruthless vigilante, start fearing for their lives, as they learn that the “justice” that has been handed out in the city over the last few years might not be so righteous after all.

Change in Film Schedule
Filming on Sunday 7th March 2010 had to be postponed as our shot location 'Azed & Co' was closed for the day. The change in the schedule was a spontaneous decision as i was informed just a day before on 6th March that the office will not be open. So as of the delay our first shoot will be on Wednesday 10th March 2010 from 5-7 Pm/
Planning – Lighting
Blake Lewis – There will be much contrast from high key and low key lighting as a he can see from different perspectives – A serial killer who serves justice or a serial killer with a passion for murder.
Low key Lighting – To represent evil
But this is the sort of the lighting that will be used on Blake as it has strips of the sun shining on his body to represent two sides to his character – one which kills for justice and one that kills as a hobby.

Here is an example from Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro playing Travis Bickle. Low-key lighting is used on him to present his character as a villain and the identity as a villain is further supported by the two Handguns he is holding.
Planning – Shooting
My opening sequence will take place in the night but it will be hard to organize filming session at night as of the problems with the lighting. But as my opening sequence will take place in an office I’ll be able do the shoot in the day as it won’t be possible to identify at what time the events are taking place. Even though I may shoot in the day artificial lighting will still be needed as the time of filming has to be apparent to the viewer.
Even though artificial lighting will be used a lot of darkness will have to viewable in the scene to give the feeling mystery and evil through Blake’s character. The darkness can be used to unsteady the viewer and in this case Blake’s questionable character is supposed to leave the audience to either to view the character as a villain or one fighting for justice. With the darkness concealing much from the audience and leaving them to question the characters creates as suspense as the viewer doesn’t know what to make of the events that have taken place.
Camera/Angle
My opening sequence will include many extreme-close ups of the characters faces to unease the viewer and make them feel vulnerable to Blake’s character and able to connect with him. The close-ups will also be used to show the fear on Michael and Ken’s faces and unease the viewer and make them unsure on who is the villain which creates suspense. In my opening sequence I will use the camera angles, shots and lighting to represent the conventions of thriller such as Low-key lighting to represent mystery and evil and close ups to represent the characters emotions e.g. fear.
The opening sequence will for the majority of the sequence shown from Blake’s perspective so the viewer will get to know of motives and mixed with the close-ups and his stream of consciousness playing in the background the viewer may result in feeling as they know Blake and others may feel too close and may be pushed away from Blake’s character straight from the opening of the film.

Planning Part one
As I am the only member of my group and my assigned actors do not share the same free periods as me we have agreed to film the opening sequence after school and outside school.
My opening sequence will be shot in an office which will show Blake sitting on the ground with the dead bodies of Ken and Michael laying either side of him.
Ideas for opening sequence: - Begins with extreme close-up of Blake wearing his gloves.
- Shot switches to pan shot Michael and Ken in the office looking over clues over the mysterious serial killer.
- Quick succession of reverse shots between the office and Blake approaching the office.
- Close-ups of Michael and Ken to represent the fear on their faces.
- As Blake approaches the office the lights go out to represent evil through low key lighting but the office’s lights stay on to represent the innocent/good through high-key lighting.
- Camera doesn’t follow Blake into the office – medium long shot of Blake’s back is shown whilst the door is shut on the camera.
- As the door closes the camera slowly zooms towards the door and a non-digetic sound is played in the background – voiceover by Blake
- When Blake’s voice over finishes a thud comes from inside the room and then the screen goes blank and the next time is camera active is inside the room where Blake is shown lying next to the dead bodies of Ken and Michael and the camera zooms into an extreme close up of Blake’s face and the sequence ends with one last voiceover by Blake.
